The Terra Carta Design Lab has announced the finalists for its 2024 competition. This student-led global competition, launched in partnership with Jony Ive and His Majesty King Charles III, seeks high-impact solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises. Among the finalists are ten innovative projects from the Royal College of Art.
One of the finalists is Aquafade, which tackles e-waste with a soluble-on-demand polymer composite for printed circuit boards, revolutionising recycling. Another shortlisted project is Biofonic, which is developing technology to accelerate sustainable agriculture and soil conservation through ecosystem-based farming. BlueNose improves the aerodynamics of merchant ships to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
DeepDive XR creates interactive, immersive experiences to educate and empower climate change advocates. Nigh uses large-scale immersive experiences to raise funds and awareness for environmental causes. Ponda develops novel textiles from renewable fibres, producing responsible materials for the fashion industry.
PulpaTronics provides recyclable RFID tags for sustainable inventory management. Pyri develops low-cost wildfire detection systems for remote and vulnerable communities. Seagraft provides an efficient planting method for seagrass restoration. Vox Aeris tackles indoor air pollution with acoustic agglomeration technology for HVAC systems, improving air quality and reducing energy consumption.
