The first visuals of the structure have been released by Minsuk Cho, founder of architecture firm Mass Studies, who was selected by the Serpentine Gallery to design this year’s pavilion. The pavilion, which will be Cho’s first project in the UK, will be called Archipelagic Void and is scheduled to open in June 2024 in London’s Kensington Gardens. The design was inspired by the history of the site and a thorough study of the 22 previous pavilions built there, according to Minsuk Cho. By reversing the center of the pavilion as a void, Cho shifts the architectural focus away from the built center of the past and opens up new possibilities and narratives.
