Chanel's iconic fashion journey

Chanel’s iconic fashion journey

The Power Station of Art (PSA) in Shanghai has opened the eagerly awaited exhibition Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto, co-organised by the Palais Galliera, Fashion Museum of Paris. The show, which runs from July 12th to November 24th, 2024, is the first to be presented in China, following successful presentations in Paris, Melbourne, Tokyo and London. The exhibition explores Gabrielle Chanel’s revolutionary fashion philosophy, focusing on her commitment to freedom of movement and timeless elegance.

The display features a wide range of Chanel’s iconic designs, including the sophisticated gowns, tailored suits and accessories that have defined her legacy. Gabrielle Chanel: Fashion Manifesto aims to deepen visitors’ understanding of Chanel’s impact on fashion, presenting her work as a narrative of elegance and modernity. Visitors can explore her pioneering contributions through meticulously curated displays of garments and accessories, each illustrating her commitment to a new kind of elegance.

The exhibition has been designed by the acclaimed firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), with Jumping He as graphic designer, to create an immersive experience that captures Chanel’s innovative spirit. Read our interview with Elizabeth Diller, whose architectural firm was in charge of the exhibition design.
