In January, the Louvre Museum in Paris will unveil its first ever fashion-focused exhibition, combining contemporary fashion with historical artefacts from its rich collection. Running from January 24th to July 21st, 2025, the show will feature around 65 ensembles and 30 accessories from prominent fashion houses such as Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Yohji Yamamoto, displayed alongside precious objects from the Byzantine period to the Second French Empire. Curated by Olivier Gabet, the exhibition aims to explore the deep connection between fashion and art, demonstrating how designers draw inspiration from historical pieces for modern creations.
This groundbreaking exhibition will showcase collaborations between fashion designers and the Louvre’s extensive collection, highlighting how elements such as armour, textiles and ceramics have influenced contemporary fashion. The show will occupy 9,700 square feet of the Louvre’s Decorative Arts galleries, with interior designer Nathalie Crinière designing the set. The exhibition will also pay tribute to Madame Carven, a major benefactor of the museum.
Louvre officials see the project as a unique opportunity to attract new audiences by presenting its historic collections through the lens of fashion. Gabet emphasised that fashion serves as a bridge between generations, offering new perspectives on ancient artefacts. The exhibition is expected to attract a diverse audience and provide an innovative way to experience the intersection of fashion, history and art.
