Dior’s celebrated Lady Dior bag has once again been reimagined by a global roster of artists for the ninth edition of Dior Lady Art. This annual initiative transforms the iconic bag into a canvas for artistic expression, blending the maison’s rich heritage with contemporary creativity. Eleven artists—spanning diverse cultural and aesthetic backgrounds—were invited to reinterpret the Lady Dior, each adding their unique vision to the brand’s enduring symbol of elegance.
For this edition, artists like Faith Ringgold, Anna Weyant, Jeffrey Gibson, and Woo Kukwon have created pieces that go beyond fashion, turning the bags into wearable works of art. Each design reflects the artist’s signature style and values, embodying the project’s spirit of “poetic metamorphosis.”
Canadian artist Anna Weyant, celebrated for her evocative figurative paintings, offers two striking versions of the bag. One features dark, wood-grain-inspired textures, while the other dazzles in gold, adorned with sculptural floral blooms that merge nostalgia with a subversive edge. Faith Ringgold, the late artist known for her vibrant story quilts, presents a joyful series that honors African American history and activism. Her designs include colorful beaded depictions of musicians and geometric patterns, as well as powerful motifs like a Black girl gazing at a bridge under a starry sky.
Jeffrey Gibson, a Native American artist renowned for his bold, geometric designs, reimagines the Lady Dior with intricate beading and heart-shaped charms. His bag includes the uplifting message love, love, love, reflecting themes of celebration and inclusivity. Chinese artist Liang Yuanwei translates the tactile beauty of her oil paintings onto the Lady Dior through 3D-printed resin flowers. Inspired by Song dynasty ceramics, her design features a lush green palette and antique gold finishes that evoke a timeless elegance.
Vietnamese artist Duy Anh Nhan Duc, known for his botanical creations, introduces a vegan leather bag embossed with floral patterns. Enhanced with gold branches and a delicate dandelion encased in resin, his design celebrates the fragility and beauty of nature. Peruvian artist Sara Flores draws on Shipibo-Conibo traditions to create hypnotic embroidered motifs. Her bags feature intricate serpentine patterns and shimmering beadwork that pay homage to the interconnectedness of the Amazon ecosystem. South Korean artist Woo Kukwon infuses his whimsical style into five designs inspired by fairy tales. His works feature playful depictions of his family, vibrant landscapes, and quirky embroidered elements like polar bears and colorful pearls.
Alabama-born Danielle McKinney brings her intimate portraits to life on the bag, featuring hand-embroidered silhouettes and symbolic butterflies. Her design reflects themes of introspection and the quiet beauty of domestic spaces. Hayal Pozanti, known for her abstract landscapes, explores the physicality of nature with bags inspired by trekking gear. Her designs incorporate sheepskin accents, hiking pole motifs, and mirrored interiors for a surreal yet practical aesthetic.
The result is a series of unique creations that blur the boundaries between fashion and art, inviting admirers to carry not just a bag, but an artist’s story. With Dior Lady Art #9, the Maison once again proves that craftsmanship and imagination can transform luxury into an enduring cultural dialogue.
