The poetics of light and dark

The poetics of light and dark

Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain and Triennale Milano present Il Nostro Tempo, CinéFondationCartier, an exhibition that explores the intersection of cinema and contemporary creativity. Running from December 12th, 2024, to March 16th, 2025, this exhibition celebrates the Fondation’s longstanding relationship with the world of film, showcasing the work of 12 influential global artists. With contributions from filmmakers like Agnès Varda, Jonathan Vinel, and Wang Bing, the exhibition examines personal reflections on our times, focusing on the contradictions of the contemporary world.

The displayed films, such as The Falling Sky by Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha and Eryk Rocha, and Au Bonheur des Maths by Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret, highlight both the fragility of societies and the beauty that emerges through adversity. These cinematic works, some presented in Italy for the first time, span a diverse range of perspectives, offering intimate and universal glimpses into human experience.

The exhibition is designed as a sensorial journey, encouraging visitors to pause and reflect on the aesthetics and technical aspects of each film, whether short or long. A unique layout, conceived by bunker arc, allows each work its own dedicated space while subtly guiding the viewer through the journey of light, dark, and movement. In addition to the exhibition, Triennale Milano and Fondation Cartier have partnered with Fondazione Piccolo America – Cinema Troisi to offer a program of Cinema Nights and screenings, providing further insight into contemporary cinema and its cultural relevance.
