Jamie Hawkesworth’s debut short film, Marmalade, premiered on January 24th at Curzon Soho as part of the London Short Film Festival (LSFF). A deeply personal project, the film captures the memories of Hawkesworth’s 95-year-old grandfather, Harry, who recounts his experiences as a 10-year-old messenger boy for the Air Raid Patrol during World War II. Through intimate storytelling, Marmalade explores nostalgia, resilience, and fleeting moments of connection, accompanied by a haunting score from Jarvis Cocker. Cinematographer Alexander Dynan’s poetic visuals seamlessly weave past and present, creating a poignant meditation on memory.
Now in its 22nd year, LSFF is the UK’s leading short film festival, renowned for championing independent voices and pushing creative boundaries. Each January, the festival showcases hundreds of British and international films, alongside live events, Q&As, and industry panels. With its bold programming and commitment to emerging talent, LSFF remains a vital platform for unconventional and independent filmmaking.
Hawkesworth, best known for his documentary-style fashion photography, brings his signature visual sensitivity to Marmalade, turning a personal family history into a universal reflection on time and change.
