From September 30th to October 20th, 2025, la Galerie du 19M Tokyo opens its doors atop the Mori Tower, offering a rare and inspiring window into the world of Chanel Métiers d’art. Transplanted from its Parisian home to the heart of Tokyo, this exhibition presents an immersive journey into craftsmanship, creativity, and cultural dialogue.
Founded by CHANEL in 2021, le19M in Paris/Aubervilliers is a one-of-a-kind creative hub that brings together 11 Maisons d’art and nearly 700 artisans dedicated to preserving and advancing the Métiers d’art of fashion and decorative arts. With its Tokyo chapter, la Galerie du 19M continues its mission of transmission and wonder — now set against the skyline of Japan’s capital.
Visitors are welcomed into a free, interactive, and multi-sensory experience that unfolds in three distinct chapters, each spotlighting the beauty of artistic savoir-faire.
Chanel Métiers d’art: ‘Le Festival’ installation by Tsuyoshi Tane
The first chapter, titled Le Festival, is a monumental installation conceived by the acclaimed architect Tsuyoshi Tane and his ATTA agency. This breathtaking environment celebrates the energy and diversity of le19M’s artisan community. Moving through the space, guests witness a poetic evolution — from raw materials and artisan tools to near-finished masterpieces. Every gesture of craftsmanship is revealed as a quiet performance, evoking joy, care, and the passage of tradition through generations. The installation is both a tribute and an invitation: to witness the transformation of matter into magic.
‘Beyond Our Horizons’: French–Japanese dialogue in craft
The second chapter, Beyond Our Horizons, brings together nearly 30 Japanese and French artists and artisans, curated by five creative figures — Momoko Ando, Yoichi Nishio, Shinichiro Ogata, Kayo Tokuda, and Aska Yamashita.
This exhibition weaves together works across mediums — from glass and thread to clay and light — that blur the boundaries between tradition and experimentation. Rooted in nature and shaped by hand, each piece speaks to shared values of care, imagination, and cultural memory. Scenography inspired by the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and spirit) guides visitors through a tranquil, almost spiritual creative landscape.
A century of embroidery: Lesage retrospective
The final chapter is a tribute to the legendary Maison Lesage, marking its 100th anniversary with a retrospective of its most iconic embroideries and woven masterpieces. A pillar of Chanel Métiers d’art, Lesage’s work is a testament to the legacy and future of high fashion craftsmanship — from haute couture runways to artistic collaborations around the world.
Through la Galerie du 19M Tokyo, CHANEL deepens its long-standing relationship with Japan — a bond rooted in shared aesthetics, respect, and cultural resonance. Beyond the exhibitions, visitors of all ages are invited to participate in workshops, live demonstrations, and conversations, engaging directly with the gestures and materials that define the Métiers d’art.
Let your senses lead. Let wonder unfold. And let la Galerie du 19M Tokyo transport you into the heart of creative excellence.
