Simone Rocha has released a short film, titled ‘Lughnasadh,’ to accompany her Autumn/Winter 2023 collection. The show itself took place in February and featured the most prominent actors on its stage: Samantha Morton, Aisling Franciosi, Patrick Gibson, Olwen Fouéré, and the rest. As it turned out, most of them are Irish, as is Simone herself. The designer wanted the audience to be immersed in the cultural heritage that permeates the air of her homeland.
Later, the film was shot at Central Hall Westminster under the direction of Hugh Mulhern and the cinematography of Eoin McLoughlin. The title Lughnasadh refers to the ancient Gaelic harvest festival, which is celebrated in Ireland on August 1. The short film captured a stellar cast of actors on the vintage black-and-white screen. The cinematic vision is based on the idea of ancient Irish rituals that explore the themes of love and marriage. The deliberate pace, Lankum‘s music, and shots of crawling snails, peeled apples, and beans in jars create a dreamlike atmosphere that evokes the mystery and power of traditions rooted in the past.
Indeed, Lughnasadh marks the enigmatic nature of spiritual practices, but also the energy and ideas translated into the garments of Simone Rocha’s A/W ’23 collection.
