The Virgil Reader: a new publication from the Virgil Abloh Archive

Global pre-orders have officially opened for The Virgil Reader, Volume 001, the first printed publication released by the Virgil Abloh Archive. Available for pre-order starting March 5th, 2026, with shipping expected within four to six weeks, the book offers an in-depth look into the creative universe of the late designer. Through its pages, The Virgil Reader reflects Abloh’s open-source philosophy of sharing ideas across disciplines—fashion, design, music, and art—while continuing the educational mission supported by the Virgil Abloh Foundation.

Conceived as a kind of “user’s manual” for Virgil Abloh’s creative thinking, the publication gathers essential interviews and editorial features originally published in influential titles such as 032c, The Business of Fashion, Flash Art, GQ Style, Hypebeast, i-D, Kaleidoscope, Real Review, System Magazine, and Wallpaper. Each text is reproduced in its original layout and design, allowing readers to revisit the conversations exactly as they first appeared in print and offering an authentic perspective on Abloh’s ideas, cultural commentary, and evolving design philosophy.

The volume also includes a foreword by i-D editor Thom Bettridge, framing the publication within Abloh’s broader impact on contemporary culture. Across 256 large-format pages, the Reader traces how the designer approached creativity as a multidisciplinary dialogue, connecting streetwear, luxury fashion, architecture, music, and visual art. Presented in a 25 × 33 cm paperback edition with a hand-stamped jacket, the book itself mirrors the tactile quality of an archival object.

Beyond documenting Abloh’s creative process, the project also serves a broader cultural mission. Proceeds from the publication support the Virgil Abloh Archive’s preservation, research, and publishing initiatives, while also contributing to educational programs for young creatives through the Virgil Abloh Foundation. In collaboration with schools and educational institutions, the Foundation plans to distribute copies to students who might not otherwise have access to the material.

With an initial limited print run of 2,000 copies, The Virgil Reader stands as both an archive and a sourcebook—an invitation to explore the ideas of one of the most influential creative minds of the twenty-first century while inspiring future generations to build upon his legacy.
