Dutch photographer Carlijn Jacobs presents Autoportrait at Acne Paper Palais Royal, on view from June 25th to July 26th, 2026. Created for the cover story of the anniversary issue of Acne Paper, the exhibition marks thirty years of Acne Studios through a striking series that probes the shifting relationship between artist, subject, and image.
Housed beneath the historic arcades of the Palais Royal, Acne Paper Palais Royal extends the brand’s long-standing dialogue with photography, publishing, design, and contemporary art. Conceived as a venue for exhibitions, talks, and editorial projects, the gallery opens a new cultural chapter for Acne Studios.
Carlijn Jacobs’ photography blurs the boundaries between image and performance
The Carlijn Jacobs series centres on model Lulu Tenney, whose body becomes both performer and artwork. Framed through the idea of self-portraiture, the photographs blur the roles of photographer, sitter, and image, asking where authorship truly resides.
Created for Acne Paper‘s limited-edition anniversary issue, Autoportrait moves beyond conventional fashion photography, drawing on the visual languages of painting, cinema, and performance. Jacobs combines vivid colour, gesture, movement, and painted surfaces to produce images that are theatrical yet deeply intimate.
Fashion recedes into the background as the creative act itself takes centre stage. Through bold compositions and inventive visual experiments, Jacobs examines identity, artistic freedom, and the fluid nature of image-making.
