A creative language rooted in duality: Viktor&Rolf retrospective at 10 Corso Como

Among the current fashion exhibitions in Milan, Viktor&Rolf. Spectrum offers an intimate portrait of one of contemporary couture’s most distinctive creative partnerships. The first Italian solo exhibition devoted to Dutch designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, it is on view at 10 Corso Como Gallery from September 25th to November 22nd, 2026, featuring twenty haute couture looks spanning more than three decades.

10 Corso Como turns Viktor&Rolf’s archive into a living dialogue

For over thirty years, Viktor&Rolf have approached fashion as a language of ideas, performance and visual experimentation. Calling themselves Fashion Artists, the duo has pushed couture beyond the boundaries of clothing, creating collections that function as provocations and carefully composed statements.

Their work features in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Kyoto Costume Institute. Their practice has also inspired major exhibitions at the Barbican Art Centre, National Gallery of Victoria, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Kunsthalle München and the High Museum of Art.

Initiated by Tiziana Fausti as part of 10 Corso Como’s renewed cultural programme and 35th-anniversary celebrations, Viktor&Rolf. Spectrum was conceived for the gallery by Maison Viktor&Rolf. Alessio de Navasques, professor of Fashion Archives at Sapienza University of Rome and curator of 10 Corso Como’s cultural programme, oversees the exhibition.

The archive is approached not chronologically but through recurring ideas, visual correspondences and creative returns.

Twenty couture looks across three decades of fashion

Twenty defining couture looks trace the evolution of Viktor&Rolf’s practice. Drawn from different periods, the garments converse across collections, revealing recurring silhouettes, gestures and construction techniques.

The archive is treated as a web of connections, where pieces separated by years reveal unexpected affinities. Their shifting forms expose a fashion language that continually changes its appearance while retaining a distinct visual and intellectual identity.

The installation takes its cue from a defining principle of Viktor&Rolf’s work: duality. Mirroring and reflection shape the space, with the twenty looks arranged in pairs.

These are not exact repetitions. Each garment finds its counterpart through a shared detail, proportion or visual idea, allowing one silhouette to answer another across time. The arrangement also echoes the designers’ own partnership: two perspectives operating as a single artistic voice.

Alessio de’Navasques sees archives not as static repositories, but as material that can be activated through contemporary questions. Read our interview with the curator on fashion education, Italian heritage, and the evolving language of fashion exhibitions.
