Dada Projects, a female-led 3D motion design studio, has collaborated with French photographer and art director Laetitia Dumez to present Fata Morgana. Fata Morgana is an imaginary 3D world that blurs the lines between reality and illusion. Using live models, this project brings to life a combination of desert landscapes resembling a mirage and a vibrant Garden of Eden filled with wildflowers. Harley Graham’s fashion styling seamlessly blends techwear and gorp-core outfits with the environment’s natural tones and delicate fluorescent accents. The combination of clothing and animation is an attempt to push creative boundaries in a fictional setting, reflecting the increasing overlap of our physical and digital lives.
Fata Morgana symbolises hope through illusion. It combines 3D and photographic elements to contrast illusion and reality. The project started in Unreal Engine for asset import and quick development but switched to Cinema4D for a more refined result. A green screen studio with continuous lighting was used to mimic sunlight at different times of day. Fixed cameras captured the slow motion of the actors and their clothing in the desert wind.
