In Cromwell Place’s latest exhibition, Robyn Neild brings the legendary designs of Chanel and Schiaparelli to life. The Italian and The Milliner explores the early rivalry and enduring legacy of Elsa Schiaparelli and Coco Chanel through 40 unique bronze sculptures of celebrated designs from 1926 to the present day.
Both Chanel and Schiaparelli revolutionized women’s fashion, with Chanel freeing the female form from corsetry and Schiaparelli using bold surrealism to express repressed intellectualism and wit. Despite their notorious rivalry, these dynamic designers of the 1920s and 30s forged a legacy that continues to inspire and influence the world’s greatest fashion designers a century later.
