The strong bond between Dior and women is the focus of a new exhibition at the Dior Gallery. The exhibition tells the story of a dialogue between the fashion house and women, both famous and ordinary.
Beginning with Christian Dior‘s inspiration from his mother Madeleine, the exhibition showcases collaborations between Maria Grazia Chiuri, the current creative director, and artists including Lilian Bassman, Catherine Jebb, Eva Jospin, Brigitte Lacombe, Sarah Moon and Niki de Saint Phalle. Treasured pieces include a 1930s painting by surrealist Leonora Carrington, previously exhibited by Dior, and the influence of American artist Niki de Saint Phalle on Mark Bohan and later on Grazia Chiuri’s S/S 2018 collection.
An exceptional feature of the exhibition is the Chambre aux merveilles, a magnificent cabinet of curiosities showcasing reinterpretations of the iconic Lady Dior handbag. Created by the renowned designers responsible for the eight editions of Dior Lady Art, these distinctive pieces honor the Maison’s heritage while embodying its spirit of innovation. The Lady Dior becomes a canvas for artistic expression, symbolizing the strong sisterhood that Dior embraces.
The beating heart of the House of Dior since it was founded, has now been reinvented and, from March 2022, will house La Galerie Dior at 30 rue Montaigne. The exhibition runs until 13 May 2024.
