Annie Leibovitz’s ‘Wonderland’ opens in Spain for the first time

The MOP Foundation in A Coruña is set to become the epicenter of photographic art this November with Wonderland, the first major survey in Spain dedicated to the legendary Annie Leibovitz. Opening to the public on November 22nd, 2025, this landmark exhibition promises an unparalleled journey through the evolving vision of one of the world’s most iconic image-makers, whose Annie Leibovitz work has defined the look of our times.

A journey through an iconic archive

The exhibition is structured as a deep dive into four distinct chapters of Leibovitz’s prolific career, many presented together for the very first time. It begins with an electrifying immersion into her early years on the road with The Rolling Stones. This section captures the raw, unscripted energy of her 1975 tour assignment, a baptism by fire that honed her instinct for capturing the soul of her subjects. The journey continues through Early Years and Stream of Consciousness, which trace the development of her unique narrative voice, placing iconic portraits of artists and writers alongside poignant landscapes and still lifes.

The fashion photographer’s dreamscape

The grand finale, upon which the exhibition’s title is based, is the Wonderland section. Here, Leibovitz’s genius as a fashion photographer takes centre stage. With over 100 prints on display, many of which have never been exhibited before, alongside video installations, this section of the exhibition celebrates her significant contribution to the art of storytelling through fashion. Leibovitz has often stated she never initially saw herself as a fashion photographer, preserving these images for years unsure of their place. She later came to understand that her fashion work, often inspired by the fairy tales she read to her children, is an integral part of her artistic universe.

A cinematic tribute from collaborators

To provide an intimate portrait of the artist behind the lens, the MOP Foundation has commissioned a special film and a tribute publication. This companion piece features a chorus of voices from those who have known her best, including music icons like Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith, fashion muses like Karen Elson, and cultural luminaries like Gloria Steinem. Their collective insights offer a unique, personal perspective on the woman who has spent half a century documenting our cultural landscape, adding a rich, narrative layer to the visual spectacle of the exhibition.
