This September, the legendary BMW Art Cars will roll into West Sussex as part of the 2025 Goodwood Revival, bringing together motorsport heritage and contemporary art in a dazzling exhibition. The display is a highlight of the BMW Art Car World Tour, a global celebration marking the 50th anniversary of this iconic collection.
Exploring the legacy of BMW Art Car models
Since their inception in 1975, the BMW Art Cars models have represented the intersection of speed, design, and creativity. Over the decades, the project has attracted some of the most influential artists in the world, each transforming BMW vehicles into mobile works of art.
At Goodwood, five standout cars will be showcased at the Earls Court Motor Show. Among them is Frank Stella’s 1976 BMW 3.0 CSL, a grid-like pattern echoing the car’s technical essence, and Roy Lichtenstein’s 1977 BMW 320i Turbo, which carries his signature Ben Day dots style. David Hockney’s 1995 BMW 850 CSi will also be featured, its hand-painted design revealing the car’s inner mechanics and even the outline of a driver.
2025 Goodwood Revival highlights
The 2025 Goodwood Revival, taking place September 12th–14th, will also spotlight Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs’ BMW 635 CSi from 1982, nicknamed Fire Fox on a Hare Hunt, and the vibrant 2010 BMW M3 GT2 by American artist Jeff Koons. The latter—one of the most dynamic BMW Art Car models—was designed with explosive colors that convey energy and speed, even at rest.
These works join a prestigious lineage that includes the famed Bmw Art Car Andy Warhol, whose bold strokes on a BMW M1 remain among the most celebrated in the collection. Alongside Bmw Art Car Jeff Koons, these vehicles underscore how the series blends racing engineering with artistic vision.
Art in motion
Over the past 50 years, the BMW Art Car Collection has evolved into a cultural landmark, uniting technology, design, and fine art. The display at Goodwood is not just a look back at its history but a celebration of its enduring impact. Visitors will be able to experience five decades of creative dialogue, where artists from Warhol to Koons have reimagined the automobile as both machine and canvas.
