On view at Shanghai’s Power Station of Art until November 15th, 2026, Bvlgari Kaleidos: Colors, Cultures and Crafts showcases more than 300 jewellery creations alongside works by contemporary Chinese artists. The travelling exhibition examines colour as a shared visual language, linking Bvlgari’s Roman heritage and gemstone artistry with China’s rich philosophical and artistic traditions.
A world shaped by colour
The Shanghai edition spans three chapters: The Science of Colors, Color Symbolism and The Power of Light. From the theories of Goethe and Chevreul to China’s philosophy of the five elements, or Wu Xing, the exhibition traces contrasting interpretations of colour across cultures.
One-of-a-kind high jewellery creations, archival designs from the Bvlgari Heritage Collection and private loans reveal the Maison’s enduring fascination with vivid gemstones, saturated hues and the play of light.
Where jewellery converges with contemporary art
Chinese artists Liang Manqi and Zhang Ding extend the exhibition’s chromatic vision into the surrounding space. Liang’s geometric abstractions spill beyond the canvas, spanning walls, floors and three-dimensional structures. Zhang’s golden light panels illuminate transparent glass heads with gemstone-like surfaces, creating a striking interplay of radiance, material and form.
Architecture as a kaleidoscopic journey
Architecture becomes an integral part of Bvlgari Kaleidos, with Formafantasma collaborating with Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA on the exhibition’s spatial design. Their approach extends Bvlgari’s world of colour into an environment that invites visitors to move through shifting perspectives and changing visual relationships, making them active participants in a kaleidoscopic journey.
A dialogue across cultures
Named after the Greek kalos (beautiful) and eidos (form), Bvlgari Kaleidos places Italian jewellery traditions in conversation with Chinese artistic perspectives. Through gemstones, philosophy and contemporary installations, the exhibition reveals colour as a visual language that crosses cultural boundaries while retaining distinct meanings.
