Crafted World

Today marks the opening of LOEWE’s inaugural public exhibition, Crafted World, representing a significant milestone for the brand, helmed by Jonathan Anderson since 2013. This project seamlessly merges his artistic fervor with LOEWE’s esteemed legacy of craftsmanship.

Spread across 1,600 square meters of space at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, the exhibition brings together 178 years of the brand’s legacy in six carefully curated chapters. Starting with a historical display of objects such as iron and wooden leatherwork tools from the early 20th century, the exhibition moves on to highlight iconic looks from recent years, including garments worn by the likes of Rihanna and Beyoncé. Upstairs, visitors can immerse themselves in a retrospective of Anderson’s 10-year tenure at LOEWE, featuring 69 key looks from his men’s and women’s collections alongside selected pieces from LOEWE’s art collection.

Anderson’s inspiration from sculptor Barbara Hepworth lends the exhibition a sense of tactile intimacy, evident in the absence of glass enclosures, allowing viewers to appreciate the construction and materials up close. The exhibition also features playful elements such as a pronunciation tunnel and immersive tributes to Spain, showcasing the brand’s wit and creativity throughout the space.

Crafted World runs from 22 March to 5 May 2024 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. For more details visit the LOEWE website.
