The MEP (Maison Européenne de la Photographie) presents Music + Life, the first French retrospective of British photographer Dennis Morris. Running from February 5th to March 30th, 2025, the exhibition showcases his most iconic images, from his early days in London to his legendary portraits of Bob Marley and the Sex Pistols.
Far more than an observer, Morris built deep trust with his subjects, capturing unseen sides of their personalities. His intimate portraits of Marley, the raw energy of the Sex Pistols, and early images of Oasis, The Stone Roses, and Marianne Faithfull reveal a rare closeness that defined his work. As an art director, he also shaped the public image of these musicians, transforming them into icons and revolutionizing music marketing.
Beyond music, Music + Life explores Morris’s powerful documentary work, chronicling multicultural England. His portraits of Caribbean and Sikh communities in London depict resilience and identity, offering a compelling visual narrative of post-colonial Britain. His images, now held in major institutions like Tate Britain and the V&A, continue to shape the cultural memory of a changing era.
