For two evenings in Paris, the iconic Diptyque candle became the centre of an immersive sensory installation inside the Cour d’Honneur of Palais-Royal. Presented from May 27th to 28th as part of the Maison’s Light on, time off campaign, the project invited visitors into a suspended landscape shaped by fragrance, shadow, and glowing light.
Inspired by the candle’s 50-hour burn time, the installation took the form of a winding garden structured around Diptyque’s signature oval motif. As guests moved through the maze-like space, shifting layers of scent, sound, and illumination gradually softened the grandeur of the Palais-Royal into an atmosphere of quiet stillness.
At the centre, the film Light on, time off flickered as a hypnotic visual study of a burning flame. Captured through accelerated time-lapse, the piece lingered on melting wax and slow combustion, offering a rare pause from the velocity of contemporary life.
Diptyque approached the project not as a conventional exhibition, but as an exercise in slowness and sensory attention. Visitors wandered through the installation at their own rhythm while the fading daylight subtly altered its emotional tone from afternoon to nightfall.
