Carried by a shared devotion to craft, Every Note Counts captures the collaboration between composer Max Richter and Krug Cellar Master Julie Cavil, bringing together music and Champagne in an immersive dialogue. The documentary reveals how the artistry of a Champagne house can inspire original musical compositions, translating the textures and character of wine into sound.
Champagne house Krug inspires music
Set against the backdrop of the exceptional 2008 harvest, the film explores how Cavil created three distinct expressions of Krug — the Clos d’Ambonnay 2008, Krug 2008, and the Grande Cuvée 164ème Édition — each reflecting precision, experimentation, and a deep understanding of time and terroir. Richter responded by composing three original pieces — “Clarity,” “Ensemble,” and “Sinfonia” — corresponding to each cuvée, turning tasting notes and effervescence into musical language.
A dialogue of craft and music
From vineyard to studio, the documentary highlights the parallels between music and winemaking: both disciplines rely on meticulous attention to detail, experimentation, and harmony. Guests at the immersive London Roundhouse event experienced Richter’s compositions performed live alongside tastings of the corresponding wines, creating a multisensory exploration of the year 2008.
Through Every Note Counts, viewers gain insight into how two masters of craft — one from the world of classical music, the other from a historic Champagne house — reinterpret tradition and innovation in parallel, proving that artistry transcends medium and resonates across the senses.
