Photography has a long history as a form of resistance. It has documented action, shared ideas and fought injustice. Acts Of Resistance: Photography, Feminisms And The Art Of Protest, a group exhibition at the South London Gallery (SLG), organized in collaboration with the V&A, showcases international artists and collectives who use photography to challenge the traditional norms of protest photography.
This politically charged exhibition explores contemporary feminism and activism on a global scale, focusing on themes such as intersectionality and the role of social media in driving change. Entitled Acts of Resistance, it reflects on recent events such as the anti-rape protests in Bangladesh in 2020, the US Supreme Court’s decision on Roe vs. Wade in 2022, and the rise of feminism in the 21st century. Featured artists include Laia Abril, Hoda Afshar, Nan Goldin, Guerrilla Girls, Sofia Karim, Sheida Soleimani and many more.
The exhibition runs until 9 June 2024. Find out more on the SLG website.
