Gilbert and George: Lady Dior handbag

The British duo Gilbert & George have put a subversive spin on Dior‘s iconic Lady Dior handbag for the eighth edition of the Dior Lady Art project. The bag features a bold print of the artists’ faces on the front, and the phrase “Love always and always” embroidered on the back.

The Gilbert & George Lady Dior handbag challenges traditional notions of femininity and luxury associated with the classic chouchou piece. The artists’ likenesses, arranged like a cross and staring contemptuously outwards at the wearer, create a sense of unease and challenge. The bag is a fitting collaboration between two of the most iconic figures in contemporary art and fashion.

The launch of the handbag coincides with the opening of the Gilbert & George Centre in London, a space dedicated to preserving and showcasing the duo’s work.
