Gucci presents Gucci Bamboo: Decoding an Icon, an immersive exhibition exploring the legacy of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag. Open from March 28th to April 6th, 2025, at Sunke Villa in Shanghai, the exhibition—curated and designed by 2050+—traces the bag’s evolution, craftsmanship, and cultural significance.
Through seven immersive rooms, the exhibition delves into bamboo’s transformation from a raw material into an emblem of Gucci’s design language. The Whispering Grove explores bamboo’s symbolism through an ethereal suspended installation, while Anatomy of a Bag deconstructs the meticulous craftsmanship behind its iconic handle. The Bamboo Codex traces its stylistic evolution across decades, and Crafting a Legacy pays tribute to the artisans preserving its heritage.
Among the featured artworks, Threads of Connection by CGI artist Sybil Montet presents a digital animation mapping bamboo’s influence across Gucci’s collections. Meanwhile, Metamorphosis by Francesco D’Abbraccio (aka Lorem) envisions the future of the bag through generative AI, where its signature handle remains a timeless motif amid shifting digital landscapes.
With a curated selection of archival pieces, contemporary artworks, and interactive installations, Gucci Bamboo: Decoding an Icon invites visitors to witness the intersection of heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation. The exhibition celebrates bamboo not just as a material but as a symbol of resilience, elegance, and adaptability—values that continue to define Gucci’s identity.
