Jil Sander debuts her first furniture collection

For the first time in her celebrated career, fashion icon Jil Sander ventures into furniture design with the unveiling of the JS Thonet collection during Milan Design Week, on view in Milan from April 7th to 13st, 2025. Created in collaboration with heritage furniture maker Thonet, the collection reinterprets Marcel Breuer’s iconic S 64 chair through Sander’s minimalist lens.

Two lines—Serious and Nordic—bring fresh character to the classic tubular steel form. The Serious line features graphite-toned metal frames with leather in Bordeaux red, olive, and black, capturing focus and quiet intensity. The Nordic collection introduces a softer palette, combining pale canework or whitewashed oak with nickel-silver accents for a more natural, sensual feel. Sander also introduces an updated version of Thonet’s B 97 side table, designed to slide seamlessly over sofas and beds, echoing the materials and tones of the chairs. “It wasn’t about redesigning the classic,” Sander noted, “but refining it—quietly, respectfully.” Through subtle interventions, the JS Thonet collection honors Bauhaus design while carrying it elegantly into the present.
