More than 380,000 LEGO flowers cascade from a former oil tank at TANK Shanghai, forming a 30-metre botanical wave across the West Bund waterfront. Spanning 800 square metres, LEGO Botanical Wave anchors the LEGO Bloom Exhibition, turning an industrial landmark into a vivid display of colour.
Hand-assembled over 1,200 hours, the installation features roses, sunflowers and tulips arranged in sweeping bands of red, yellow, orange and white. The flowers appear to burst from the concrete tank and spill across the ground, their intricate petals contrasting with the site’s monumental industrial architecture.
Open from October 1st to 29th, 2026, the exhibition extends inside TANK Shanghai, an art centre housed in former oil storage tanks along the Huangpu River. Its programme examines LEGO bricks as a medium for artistic experimentation, interior design and collective creativity.
Botanical playground for all ages
Inside the tank, Where Blooms Begin features 18 artworks co-created by artists and adult LEGO enthusiasts. Combining brick-built flowers with metal, textiles and mirrors, the works experiment with texture and sculptural form. A 360-degree digital environment surrounds visitors with floral imagery.
Visitors can also build their own botanical creations, scan them and add them to a shared digital garden. Outside, the Bloom Gallery displays 18 LEGO botanical arrangements styled for contemporary interiors.
LEGO Bloom looks beyond childhood
With more than 40 sets in its Botanicals collection, LEGO is expanding its appeal to adults, positioning building at the intersection of play, design and home decoration. At TANK Shanghai, familiar bricks become the material for an ambitious public art experience.
The initiative also reflects the brand’s investment in China’s adult market. In November, LEGO plans to open an adult-focused pop-up store in Shanghai, extending the experience beyond the exhibition.
