Jeff Koons: Moon Phases

Moon Phases

Jeff Koons is inspired by the moon as a symbol of human curiosity and determination. He celebrates both past and future achievements. His Moon Phases project aims to offer viewers a transcendent perspective on their place in the universe. It encourages deep reflection and contemplation.

Koons collaborated with 4Space to create 125 miniature stainless steel sculptures, each representing a different phase of the moon. Named after luminaries such as Plato and David Bowie, the one-inch sculptures were designed to reflect perspectives from Earth and space. They were launched to the moon and paired with larger twins, along with linked NFTs, available through Pace Gallery’s Pace Verso, Koons’ partner for Web3 projects. The sculptures landed on the lunar surface at 6.23pm EST (11.23pm GMT) and were streamed live by Intuitive Machines. NASA TV also provided live coverage of the historic event.
