Simone Rocha, the Irish-born, London-based designer known for her romantic and feminine designs, has been announced as the next guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture. Rocha will unveil her one-off JPG couture collection during Paris Haute Couture Week in January 2024.
Rocha is the sixth guest designer to work on a couture collection for the French atelier since Gaultier’s retirement in 2020. Other guest designers have included Chitose Abe (Sacai), Glenn Martens (Diesel and Y/Project), Olivier Rousteing (Balmain), Haider Ackermann, and, most recently, Julien Dossena (Paco Rabanne).
The collaboration between Rocha and Gaultier is sure to be an exciting one. Gaultier is known for his subversive and avant-garde designs, while Rocha has a more romantic and feminine aesthetic, characterised by the use of delicate fabrics, intricate embellishments, and soft silhouettes. It is likely that Rocha’s collection will be a unique and unexpected fusion of the two designers’ styles.
