A bold cultural vision takes shape in Rome with the debut of PM23, a new exhibition space founded by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti. Located at Piazza Mignanelli 23, adjacent to Valentino’s original atelier, PM23 opens with Horizons-Red, a striking exhibition that honors the designer’s deep connection to red and the lasting impact of Valentino gowns.
Curated by Pamela Golbin and Anna Coliva, Horizons-Red runs from May 25th through October 2025. It spans six intricately designed rooms, unfolding in five thematic chapters that explore beauty, identity, and the emotional power of surfaces. At the heart of the exhibition at the PM23 are 50 archival Valentino gowns, each restored with precision, alongside 30 powerful red-centric works by artists such as Cy Twombly, Francis Bacon, and Louise Bourgeois.
Highlights include a dramatic dialogue between a backless Spring/Summer 2008 Valentino gown and Clyfford Still’s PH-387, both radiating intensity through texture and hue. Another standout moment features a 1959 tulle gown from Valentino’s debut collection juxtaposed with Twombly’s lyrical abstraction—an encounter that bridges postwar art with the birth of a fashion legacy.
Though not originally conceived in tandem, the artworks and Valentino gowns resonate through shared emotion and aesthetic depth. Giammetti calls the Horizons-Red curation an emotional journey, one that allowed him and Valentino to reflect on decades of collaboration and creativity.
More than a gallery, PM23 is envisioned as a hub for cultural dialogue and education. With Horizons-Red setting the tone, the founders aim to shape a space where history, fashion, and contemporary art continue to evolve—anchored by the timeless allure of Valentino gowns.
