Yohji Yamamoto to be honoured in London for his enduring impact on the global fashion industry

Yohji Yamamoto will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award at The Fashion Awards 2026, honouring his profound influence on contemporary fashion. Presented by the British Fashion Council (BFC), the distinction recognises a career defined by artistic independence, exceptional craftsmanship and a fearless challenge to convention.

A legacy of radical design

The ceremony will take place on November 30th, 2026 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Yamamoto’s pioneering approach to tailoring, unconventional silhouettes and avant-garde aesthetic has expanded the boundaries of womenswear, establishing fashion as a powerful form of artistic expression.

His eponymous label has influenced generations of designers, while his distinctive approach to proportion, structure and fabric continues to challenge established ideas of beauty and elegance. Throughout his career, Yamamoto has forged a singular dialogue between clothing, art and culture.

Celebrating an enduring creative vision

Laura Weir, Chief Executive of the BFC, praised Yamamoto for reshaping perceptions of clothing through his dedication to craftsmanship, precision and creative integrity, describing it as a privilege to honour his contribution to the industry.

The Outstanding Achievement Award recognises designers whose work has left a lasting imprint on global fashion. Previous recipients include Tom Ford, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Miuccia Prada, Ralph Lauren and Karl Lagerfeld.
