Lexus has unveiled Liminal Cycles, a multisensory installation created in collaboration with the Bratislava-based design studio Crafting Plastics. Presented at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Miami during Miami Art & Design Week, the installation explores Lexus’ commitment to material innovation, responsive technology, and personalization. Drawing inspiration from the Lexus LF-ZC Battery Electric Vehicle concept, the installation highlights the intersection of nature and technology.
The centerpiece of the installation is a dynamic, 3D-printed bioplastic sculpture that responds to environmental stimuli, such as UV radiation, and changes color and shape. This artwork symbolizes the possibilities of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), allowing for real-time customization and adaptability. Complementing the sculpture are three satellite installations, each featuring interactive design elements from the LF-ZC, including sound, scent, and tactile sensations.
Alongside the installation, Lexus launched a limited-edition capsule collection of 26 collectible design objects created by designers including Germane Barnes, Michael Bennett, Suchi Reddy, Tara Sakhi, and Crafting Plastics. These objects reflect Lexus’ design ethos of innovation, sustainability, and technology, with materials ranging from biodegradable plastics to recycled aluminum.
The Liminal Cycles installation and capsule collection are on view at ICA Miami through December 15th, marking Lexus’ third year partnering with the museum.
