The theme for the upcoming Venice Architecture Biennale has been revealed, and it’s a thought-provoking one: Intelligent. Natural. Artificial. Collective. Curated by architect and engineer Carlo Ratti, the exhibition aims to explore the future of intelligence in its entirety, going beyond architecture to include related fields such as astronomy, sociology, art and biology.
Running from May 10th to November 23th, 2025, the Biennale will showcase artists who act as mutagens, triggering natural evolutionary processes and pushing the boundaries of creativity, presenting diverse design proposals and experiments that seek intelligent solutions to environmental and societal problems. Carlo Ratti emphasises the urgent need for architecture to tap into collective intelligence to address pressing global challenges. The title Intelligens embodies a broader concept of intelligence, inclusive and imaginative, beyond the realm of artificial intelligence.
