Dans La Lumière, JR’s exhibition, is presented at the Perrotin Gallery. Inspired by the CHIROPTERA project, a unique ballet performance created by JR, Damien Jalet and Thomas Bangalter for the Opéra de Paris in November 2023, the exposition presents a series of recent artworks. The exhibition runs from 7th to 15th June with a special sound installation by Thomas Bangalter.
The exhibition concept draws parallels with ancient Greek legends and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, exploring themes of light, shadow and perspective. Visitors will encounter films, photographic prints and innovative artworks that combine photo transfer, black ink and charcoal on wood. Highlights include L’Ombre de la caverne, which captures the interplay between dancer Amandine Albisson and her shadow during a ballet performance.
The Génome series offers bird’s-eye views of the dancers’ configurations on thirty-meter-high scaffolding, while Chromosome presents close-ups. The Dans la lumière series focuses on the luminous silhouettes of the dancers, symbolising liberation and a return to the light. This exhibition is a powerful representation of the intense experience felt during CHIROPTERA’s performance.
