Pioneering Design and Activism

The London Design Festival has announced its programme for 2024, celebrating the city as the design capital of the world. Taking place from September 14th until September 22nd, 2024, the festival will focus on sustainability, AI, inclusivity and the concept of play.

One of the highlights is Vert, a collaboration between Diez Office and OMC°C. Made from red oak glulam, this sustainable structure aims to cool cities, increase urban biodiversity and provide green spaces. The project in association with the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). Another highlight is Barricade and Beacon by Studio Bark, which will focus on architecture and activism. It will showcase structures made from U-Build units and bamboo to promote change through design.

Duo by Turkish designer Melek Zeynep will be shown in the Royal Naval College’s Painted Hall. Using magnets and sensors to create an engaging sensory experience, this suspended installation explores duality and interaction. Un-Hide: Reframing Luxury by Modular by Mensah, supported by Bridge of Weir Leather and Muirhead, will redefine the role of leather in contemporary design, emphasising sustainability and social connection.

Johnnie Walker, as a key partner, will launch a ground-breaking project with a forward-thinking creator, focusing on craft and luxury. This project will be unveiled at the Global Design Forum. Among the notable participants will be Power Out of Restriction (POoR Collective) with a community-led installation at the Battersea Power Station. Their project has an emphasis on inclusivity and community engagement.
