Marina Abramović's ‘The Life’ performance

Art beyond physical boundaries

Marina Abramović’s groundbreaking performance The Life captivated audiences at the Visual Arts Center Pescheria of Pesaro. This mixed reality artwork, created in collaboration with director Todd Eckert and the Tin Drum studio, blended physical and digital elements.

Viewers equipped with augmented reality glasses saw Abramović as a hologram dressed in a red outfit reminiscent of her childhood. The hologram moved gracefully, engaging the audience with gestures that conveyed messages of love and presence, creating an authentic connection despite her physical absence.

The performance reflected the power of art as an intangible force, bridging the gap between the artist and the audience. Abramović’s digital presence transcended the boundaries of time and space, offering a profound commentary on human connection and the future of art. Todd Eckert highlighted the revolutionary potential of this technology to capture the essence of performance. Abramović noted that The Life immortalised the energy of life and resonated with viewers in a timeless way.
