WeTransfer has announced that Olafur Eliasson, the highly acclaimed artist known for his immersive, large-scale works, will be the next guest curator in 2024. Eliasson emphasises the critical role that artists play in addressing contemporary issues, stating that artists help us navigate the complexities of our world by shaping our perceptions and fostering connections. He believes that in this moment of polycrisis, where climate emergency intersects with racial injustice, economic instability and digital inequality, artists are essential voices.
In his essay, Eliasson explains that the world is a pluriverse, a complex network of interconnected worlds that shapes our understanding and connection to each other and our environment. He emphasises that no crisis exists in isolation and that understanding this interconnectedness is crucial. During his curatorship, Eliasson plans to explore themes of environmental urgency, social justice and the digital divide.
Eliasson aims to amplify the voices of artists such as Sarah Masete, Hadeer Omar and Neema Githere, whose work addresses these multifaceted crises. Their contributions will spark important discussions and inspire others. This collaboration will use WeTransfer’s arts platform to showcase their work and further raise awareness of these pressing issues.
