Liverpool Cathedral proudly hosts Monadic Singularity, the first exhibition in Liverpool by renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor in over 40 years. Running from August 10th to September 15th, 2024, this landmark exhibition is a highlight of the Cathedral’s centenary celebrations.
Kapoor, known for iconic works such as Cloud Gate in Chicago, brings his innovative sculptures to the UK’s largest cathedral, creating a profound dialogue between art and spirituality. The exhibition explores themes of existence and the human condition through Kapoor’s striking use of material and form.
One of the highlights of the show is Sectional Body Preparing for Monadic Singularity, a large-scale installation in the cathedral’s fountain that challenges the viewer with its monumental presence. Another significant work, a red wax sculpture titled Untitled (2010), is on display in the Main Hall, evoking powerful reflections on materiality and the body. In the Lady Chapel, Imminence (2000) and Non-Object (Spire) (2007) further explore the tension between object and non-object, blending with the Gothic architecture of the cathedral.
This exhibition is not only a celebration of Kapoor’s artistry but also a significant cultural moment for Liverpool. Monadic Singularity promises to be a must-see event, offering a rare opportunity to engage with Kapoor’s work in a setting as grand and spiritually resonant as Liverpool Cathedral.
