Shifting perspectives and scales

The upcoming exhibition BIOT‘ will explore the complex relationships between humans and the natural world through the work of artist Andrea Blum. Known for her multidisciplinary approach that blends art, design and architecture, Blum has spent over four decades creating public artworks and installations that challenge perceptions of space and human interaction.

BIOTA will showcase the artist’s work from 2008 to 2024, including drawings that mimic organic forms, furniture-like objects designed for interspecies observation, and videos that capture wildlife behaviour that mirrors human desires. These works explore the psychological connections between the natural and social worlds through shifts in perspective and scale.

Curated by Jenny Jaskey and organized by Hunter College Art Galleries, the exhibition will be on view at 205 Hudson Gallery in Tribeca from September 4th to October 26th, 2024. The project will offer a deep dive into Blum’s exploration of the boundaries between autonomy and connection, both within and beyond the human experience.
