The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain has unveiled plans for a new building in Paris, designed by renowned architect Jean Nouvel. Set to open by the end of 2025, the building will be located at Place du Palais-Royal, marking a significant shift from the Fondation’s current home on Boulevard Raspail. The new structure will transform and restore a historical Haussmannian building dating back to 1855. Nouvel envisions the space as a unique platform for artists, offering them maximum freedom of expression through adaptable gallery spaces and flexible exhibition formats.
The 8500-square-meter building, formerly a Grand Hotel, will include versatile halls and mobile platforms, allowing for dynamic presentations and innovative displays. The Fondation will continue its focus on fostering artistic creation across a wide range of disciplines, from painting and photography to architecture and design. This new site will uphold the Fondation’s principles of supporting both established and emerging artists while remaining independent from the commercial side of Maison Cartier.
The Fondation will maintain its commitment to supporting artistic creation across diverse disciplines, including painting, photography, architecture, and design.
