From November 8ер, 2024, to January 25ер, 2025, Suhe Haus in Shanghai presents Visions of Bloom, Duyi Han’s first solo exhibition in China. This immersive installation reimagines a secret Chinese garden through psychedelic video and collectible furniture, blending Eastern and Western influences in a multidisciplinary exploration of art and design.
Curated by Claire Shiying Li and commissioned by Cheruby, the exhibition highlights Han’s innovative use of neuroaesthetics—a field studying how visual art affects emotional and cognitive responses. Han’s work often seeks to evoke deep emotional states, with Visions of Bloom focusing on themes of mental health and wellness.
A key feature is the Proteine Grottesche installation, which transforms Qing dynasty-inspired patterns and Roman mural compositions into intricate wall and floor coverings. Using 3D protein molecule models from biological research, Han creates a cross-cultural fusion of science and art history.
The centerpiece, a video installation titled Visions of Bloom, weaves natural artifacts into animated forms, drawing inspiration from Buddhist philosophy. Complementing the video is an embroidered bench, Synthesis of ATP, which visualizes the cellular energy process amid a cosmic, zen-like setting.
Duyi Han, an acclaimed Chinese avant-garde artist and furniture designer, brings a fresh perspective to the intersection of technology, architecture, and traditional artistry. Visions of Bloom offers a unique sensory journey that bridges art history, cutting-edge design, and existential reflection.
