The Olivia Foundation in Mexico City presents Woman in a Rowboat, a group exhibition on view from February 5th to September 28th, 2025. Curated by Diana Nawi, the show brings together works from the Olivia Collection, spanning diverse genres and artistic movements. Featuring artists such as Joan Snyder, Martha Jungwirth, and Anselm Kiefer, the exhibition explores the fluid boundaries between self and world, giving form to personal and collective interior landscapes.
Taking its name from a painting by Willem de Kooning, the exhibition examines how artists translate emotion, memory, and perception into visual language. Joan Snyder’s expressive, layered canvases capture raw emotional states, blending abstraction with personal symbolism. Meanwhile, Anselm Kiefer’s textured, monumental compositions evoke historical and mythological narratives, transforming material into meditations on time and identity.
Set within a historic early 20th-century house reimagined by architects Alberto Kalach and Carlos Zedillo, the Olivia Foundation’s space enhances the exhibition’s dialogue between past and present. The works on view range from surreal and dreamlike imagery to quiet, introspective still lifes, forming a rich tapestry of artistic voices. The recurring presence of the female figure—whether directly depicted or subtly implied—anchors the exhibition’s exploration of selfhood and representation.
Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, Woman in a Rowboat reveals how art makes the unseen visible, offering a poetic reflection on the fluid nature of identity and imagination.
