Today, April 14th, 2025, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket lifted off from Van Horn, Texas, carrying an all-female crew to the edge of space. The mission, officially titled NS-31, is led by journalist and pilot Lauren Sánchez and includes singer Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The flight, which soared just past the Kármán line—the recognized boundary of space—lasted around 11 minutes. Designed as both a symbolic and scientific milestone, the mission celebrates female leadership across industries, from aerospace to pop culture. Each woman wore a custom-designed Monse flight suit, blending high fashion with high altitude. Sánchez expressed awe and gratitude ahead of the launch, calling the moment surreal. As the first crew of its kind since 1963, this journey marks a bold new chapter in space travel.
