Miu Miu has unveiled Grande Envie, a visionary new project born from a striking Miu Miu collaboration with celebrated costume designer Catherine Martin. Known for her cinematic mastery, Catherine Martin takes on both director and designer roles in this multidimensional campaign, marking her directorial debut. At the heart of the project is a capsule collection from Upcycled by Miu Miu, inspired by interwar Riviera style and shaped by distinctive Catherine Martin designs.
The film, which premiered on Miu Miu’s Instagram on May 19th, features Callina Liang, Daisy Ridley, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Diana Silvers, Eliot Sumner, and Willem Dafoe in a haunting ghost story wrapped in longing and layered fashion. Set in a surreal, stylized universe, Grande Envie blends expat bohemia with liberated silhouettes—hallmarks of Catherine Martin designs.
Vintage lace, denim, and jersey are reimagined as sailor-collar jackets, striped cashmere knits, and slip dresses that merge nostalgia with unexpected modernity. “We’ve used the good bits—and then added other bits to make it wearable and precious,” says Catherine Martin, describing the process as playful and rebellious.
This Miu Miu collaboration is brought to life by stylist Lotta Volkova and cinematographer Mandy Walker, who lend their own visual edge. While grounded in circular fashion, the film and collection evoke a feeling of freedom that transcends material.
For Catherine Martin, Grande Envie is more than a fashion moment—it’s a narrative stitched from reclaimed fabrics and imaginative storytelling. As far as Catherine Martin designs go, this one is both deeply personal and resolutely modern.
While we await the premiere of this dreamlike film, we invite you to delve into Willem Dafoe’s artistic universe in our conversation.
