A solo exhibition of oil paintings by Jun Takahashi, the founder of the Japanese fashion label UNDERCOVER, will be held at Gallery Target in Tokyo from August 19 to September 9, 2023.
The exhibition features bronze sculptures and 26 oil paintings, including portraits of musicians and actors who have had a significant impact on Takahashi’s life. The works are characterised by an unfinished and enigmatic quality, with obscured or missing eyes. This feature was born accidentally, in an impulse of dissatisfaction, after Takahashi felt that the accuracy of the paintings was not enough and ended up redrawing the eyes from the portraits. It has become the artist’s signature style, expressing the inner side of a hidden world beyond our comprehension.
