Andy Warhol exhibition at Espace Louis Vuitton: ‘Serial Portraits’ comes to Tokyo

A major Andy Warhol exhibition will open this fall at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, presenting a rare opportunity to encounter the Pop Art icon’s serial portraiture in an intimate setting. Titled Andy Warhol: Serial Portraits – Selected Works from the Collection, the show runs from October 2nd, 2025, through February 15th, 2026, and is free to the public.

Fondation Louis Vuitton collection in focus

Organized as part of the Fondation’s acclaimed Hors-les-murs program, the exhibition draws exclusively from the Fondation Louis Vuitton collection, offering Japanese audiences a deeper look at Warhol’s lifelong fascination with the human face and celebrity culture. The initiative, which brings masterworks from Paris to international venues, underscores the Fondation’s commitment to broadening access to contemporary art worldwide.

The display juxtaposes Warhol’s most recognizable portraits with rarely seen works, revealing the artist’s unique exploration of repetition, identity, and self-image. Visitors will discover how Warhol’s approach to serial portraiture challenged traditional ideas of representation while capturing the cultural obsessions of his time.

Highlights of Tokyo art exhibitions 2025

As one of the standout Tokyo art exhibitions 2025, Serial Portraits will feature pieces such as Warhol’s Self-Portraits (1977–1986), where the artist multiplies his own image across canvases, probing both vanity and vulnerability. Another highlight includes his portraits of celebrities, produced through silkscreen techniques that mirror mass media’s endless recycling of star images. By placing icons alongside more obscure figures, the show invites reflection on how fame, identity, and art intersect.

A global dialogue through Espace Louis Vuitton

Founded in 2014 in a landmark Frank Gehry building in Paris, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has welcomed over 10 million visitors. Through collaborations like Hors-les-murs, it continues to connect audiences across continents. With Serial Portraits, Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo becomes the stage for a dialogue between Warhol’s timeless vision and today’s globalized visual culture.
