Expo 2025 Osaka masterplan reveals new details. An International fair will be held from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The theme of the Expo, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” will focus on exploring ways to create a more sustainable and equitable future.
Expo 2025 Osaka will be held on the artificial island of Yumeshima, which is located in Osaka Bay, Kansai, Japan. The Masterplan for the Expo, developed by architect Sou Fujimoto, envisions a “city within a city” with pavilions from different countries and organisations clustered together in a forest-like setting.
The Japanese architect, in collaboration with Tohata Architects & Engineers and Azusa Sekkei, has designed a timber ring roof with a diameter of almost 700 metres. It will be made of wood and supported by slender columns, creating a sense of lightness and openness. The roof will be covered with plants, filling the heart of Expo 2025 Osaka with lush green space.
Set to be a global showcase of innovation and culture, the event promises to captivate visitors through a diverse array of national pavilions. The Netherlands will present the theme “Common Ground: Creating a New Dawn Together”. It will explore the production of emission-free energy and will include a large illuminated sphere, representing the sun, surrounded by constructed waves of water. The Czech Republic has designed a dynamic spiral structure called Sculpting Vitality. The construction moves upwards and has transparent floors, inside of which visitors will be immersed in versatile exhibition spaces. The structure itself is embellished with artificial light, bringing to life the architectural vision of the path of life. The design for the Japan Pavilion was guided by the question, “What lies in the place between lives?”. The outcome reveals the life embodied in the structure, which turns out to be a whole “conscious” being. The pavilion explores the cycle of life, capturing the visual evolution of the journey of existence and leaving a lasting impression on visitors to the fair.
Expo 2025 Osaka is a major event that is expected to attract visitors from all over the world, offering a unique opportunity to experience the future of our world.
