Where heritage glows: Maison Ruinart elevates its anniversary with immersive light art

Maison Ruinart marks the first anniversary of its transformed historic estate at 4 Rue des Crayères in Reims with a luminous celebration rooted in light art and sensory experience. The world’s oldest Champagne house welcomes visitors for a special weekend honouring its heritage, its UNESCO-listed chalk cellars, and a new artistic collaboration.

A weekend illuminated by light art

On 28 and 29 November, the gardens of 4 Rue des Crayères will become the stage for SPARK, an ethereal light art performance by Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde. Presented during two nighttime openings, the installation offers a continuous flow of biodegradable, floating lights that drift through the air like silent constellations.

After travelling to cities such as Melbourne, Tokyo, Singapore, and Colorado, the project arrives in Reims, transforming the courtyard into an otherworldly cloud of shimmering motion. Although the scheduled performances are fully booked, Maison Ruinart still welcomes guests on a first-come basis, with open access as capacity allows.

The concept behind the light installation

Roosegaarde’s SPARK reimagines celebration through sustainable design. Instead of traditional fireworks, the installation releases thousands of eco-friendly particles that gather into a 50-metre-wide luminous formation. Their slow, drifting choreography evokes a sense of wonder while reducing environmental impact, aligning with Maison Ruinart’s long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The result is a dreamlike spectacle—an ephemeral skyborne artwork that honours the natural setting of the estate while inviting visitors to reflect on new ways of illuminating the night.

Seasonal experiences at Maison Ruinart

Throughout the anniversary season, guests can explore the estate’s gardens, bar and iconic chalk cellars, which were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site ten years ago. New tasting experiences, including Oysters & Champagne, Afternoon Tea and Les Découvertes Ruinart, offer a refined introduction to the house’s signature Chardonnay and its gastronomic pairings.

Maison Ruinart’s anniversary weekend not only celebrates a milestone in Champagne heritage but also demonstrates how contemporary light art can elevate tradition, turning the heart of Reims into a radiant, immersive experience.
