A major retrospective of the work of Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen is opening at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) in Paris on October 18, 2023. The exhibition, titled Viviane Sassen: Mirrors & Portals, will bring together over 200 works from Sassen’s career, spanning three decades of her artistic journey.
The exhibition will feature a fusion of photographic prints, paintings, collages, and videos, including her iconic series Umbra, Parasomnia, Flamboya, and Roxanne. In her work, Sassen combines vivid colours and the use of shadow and light, creating a dreamlike and sensual atmosphere. Her art lives in a sense of surrealism, where animal and floral motifs, lines, and bold shapes meet the theme of the intimacy of the body. The exhibition will also reveal the aspects of the search for new visual artistic expression that Viviane explores throughout her work.
Viviane Sassen: Mirrors & Portals will run until February 11, 2024, presenting a great opportunity to dive into contemporary photography. For more details, visit the official MEP website.
