The Serpentine Pavilion will return to London in 2026 with a striking new design by LANZA atelier, marking the 25th anniversary of the Serpentine Pavilion and a milestone celebration in partnership with the Zaha Hadid Foundation. Opening on June 6th, 2026 at Serpentine South, the pavilion will be on display until October 25th, 2026, offering visitors a blend of architectural innovation, artistic dialogue and an immersive public experience.
LANZA atelier’s Serpentine Pavilion: curves, craft, and collective engagement
Founded in 2015 by Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo, Mexico City-based LANZA atelier has drawn inspiration for the pavilion from the English serpentine wall, a curving brick feature historically designed for stability and efficiency. Their 2026 pavilion, named a serpentine, echoes these curvilinear forms while subtly referencing the nearby Serpentine lake. The project emphasizes permeability, rhythm, and communal interaction, with brick walls paired with a translucent roof resting lightly on columns, blending seamlessly with the garden landscape.
LANZA atelier’s design foregrounds hands-on techniques, vernacular craft, and the elemental power of architecture to create spaces that invite reflection, dialogue, and movement. The pavilion promises to be both a structural marvel and a space for social encounter, reflecting the studio’s focus on collective experience and spatial intelligence.
Celebrating the 25th Serpentine Pavilion with Zaha Hadid Foundation
The 2026 commission marks a historic anniversary: the 25th Serpentine Pavilion. To commemorate the milestone, Serpentine has partnered with the Zaha Hadid Foundation, honoring Hadid’s legacy as the architect of the inaugural pavilion in 2000. The collaboration will include a dedicated talks programme exploring innovative architecture and transgenerational dialogue.
The series will launch during Frieze Week 2026, featuring former Pavilion architects Lina Ghotmeh (2023) and Sumayya Vally (2021) in conversation with Aric Chen, Director of the Zaha Hadid Foundation, and Serpentine Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist. The talks aim to connect new audiences with pioneering architectural ideas, reflecting on Hadid’s influence while exploring the future of public and experimental architecture.
Programming and public engagement at the 2026 pavilion
Throughout the summer and until October, the Serpentine Pavilion 2026 will host a diverse programme spanning music, theatre, dance, literature, film, fashion, and technology. The pavilion’s dynamic design encourages engagement, allowing visitors to experience architecture not only as form but as a platform for interdisciplinary interaction. In addition, Serpentine will publish LANZA atelier’s first monograph, designed by Estudio Herrera, featuring essays, architectural reflections, and a conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Supported by Goldman Sachs for the 12th consecutive year, this edition of the Serpentine Pavilion combines LANZA atelier’s inventive spatial design with the enduring spirit of Zaha Hadid, celebrating a quarter-century of one of the world’s most influential architectural commissions.
